HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT GEAR FOR YOU
Six parts make up your kit. Here is what to look for in each one.
KITE
If you're new to kiteboarding and looking at your first kite, pick a good all-around kite for your weight. The goal is to get the most water time in the conditions you'll be riding in.
Start with your weight to find your kite size.

BAR
Bar width controls how fast your kite turns. A wider bar gives you more leverage, so the kite turns faster. A narrower bar gives you less, so it turns slower.
Choosing the right bar size for your kite is key. Find your kite size in the chart to see which bar fits.

HARNESS
The harness is the link between you and your kite. It carries the full power of the kite.
SEAT HARNESS
The best pick for beginners, and what most kite schools use. It has leg straps and sits low, so it stays in place when the kite pulls up. It is also a comfy choice for riders with back issues.
WAIST HARNESS
It sits higher and gives you more freedom to move. A good first buy if you want gear that lasts as you get better.

BOARD
Most riders learn on a twin tip board. If you are a new rider, go with a large board for your first year. It is easier to get used to floating and balancing on a bigger board.
A bigger board also gets you up sooner and works in lighter wind. As you get better, you can go smaller.

FOOTSTRAPS
Footstraps and pads hold your feet on the board. They are how you stay connected to it. Set your footstraps so your feet feel snug but can still slide out.

PUMP
A pump is a must-have. You need it to fill your kite before every ride. It is a double-action pump you work by hand. There is no battery to run out, and no electronics to fail near sand and salt water.
Check that the nozzle fits the valve on your kite. Fill to the pressure printed on your kite, near the valve.
